Kathleen Ting, MD

Dr. Kathleen Ting obtained her undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois at Champaign/Urbana. During her medical school years at the University of Illinois in Chicago, she decided to pursue a dual degree, earning both a medical degree and a master’s degree in biochemistry within a span of four years. She was awarded the distinguished James Scholar Honors recognition.
After completing her internal medicine internship at the University of Chicago, Dr. Ting pursued her studies in dermatology and completed her residency at the University of Illinois in Chicago and Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. She then moved to North Carolina, where she served as part of the dermatology surgery teaching faculty at Duke University. Later, she relocated back to Illinois and established a private practice in a farming community, where she focused on treating skin cancer. At that time, she also served as a member of the teaching faculty at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, the home of Frederic E. Mohs, MD, the pioneer of the Mohs Micrographic Surgical procedure. 
She moved to California and took a job with Kaiser after that. Dr. Ting comes to Golden State Dermatology after 19 years at Kaiser as a Mohs surgeon with extensive experience treating complex tumors and a track record of consistently achieving top patient satisfaction scores. She served as the department chief of Dermatology and Mohs Surgery from 2007 to 2022 and as the Chairman of all Northern California Mohs Chiefs from 2014 to 2017. Dr. Ting is double boarded in both Dermatology and Mohs Micrographic Surgery and has a passion for enhancing the patient care experience. She has authored 22 publications and two book chapters, and has also presented at national meetings. 
Dr. Ting’s special interest lies in reconstructive procedures, aiming to achieve optimal results while preserving functional capabilities and maximizing aesthetics. She prefers to take a collaborative approach with her patients to decide on the best course of action. Dr. Ting strives to ensure patient comfort and minimize pain, making their experience with the Mohs team a pleasant one.
Her professional affiliations include the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery, the American Society of Mohs Surgery, the San Francisco Dermatologic Society, SkinPac and the California Dermatology Society. Dr. Ting is married and has two sons and a Portuguese Water Dog named Kevin. Outside of work, her interests involve simply being with friends and family, whether it be traveling, attending or participating in sports activities, indulging foodie tendencies or going to a movie.
