Karynne O. Duncan, MD
Dr. Kary Duncan, founder of Duncan Dermatology in 2003, is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and received her Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Colorado School of Medicine. She completed a residency and was selected as a chief medical resident in Internal Medicine at the University of Colorado School of Medicine. She then went on to complete a residency in Dermatology and was again chosen as a chief medical resident at Yale University School of Medicine. Prior to moving to the Napa Valley in 2002, Dr. Duncan was on faculty at the University of Colorado in both the departments of Internal Medicine and Dermatology, and she also served as the Assistant Chief of Medicine at the University of Colorado Hospital.
Dr. Duncan is board certified both in Internal Medicine and Dermatology and is a fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP) and the American Academy of Dermatology (FAAD). She remains active in the world of academic dermatology as a Directory of the American Board of Dermatology and as an author of various publications, including co-author of Dermatology Essentials, a leading Dermatology textbook. She has received numerous awards, including “Best Doctors in America” and “The Bay Area’s Top Doctors Award.”
With her combined training in internal medicine and dermatology, Dr. Duncan focuses on medical dermatology in her practice, and she is skilled at treating complex problems, such as autoimmune blistering diseases, cutaneous lupus, and severe acne, eczema and psoriasis. She is also passionate about the early diagnosis and management of skin cancer, particularly melanoma, and she loves taking care of patients with numerous moles and atypical moles.
Committed to providing access to quality health care in her Napa Valley community, Dr. Duncan has served on the board of directors for OLE Health, a non-profit federally qualified health center (FQHC) that serves one in four residents in the Napa Valley, for ten years, one as Chairperson. Along with her husband, David Duncan of Silver Oak Cellars, Dr. Duncan co-chaired Auction Napa Valley (2014), which supports local health initiatives, and is an ardent supporter of the St. Helena Hospital foundation, establishing the “Kary and David Duncan Endowed Chair for Medical Innovation” in 2016.
At home in St. Helena, Dr. Duncan enjoys spending time with her husband and three children and being an active supporter of the family’s wine business. As a recent cancer survivor, she is thankful for her many blessings and is determined to “channel my health issues into hope for others.” By participating in the St. Helena Hospital’s Hereditary Cancer Consortium, she will do just that for the community she loves.
