Post-Mohs
Reconstruction

Post-Mohs Reconstruction Overview

Post-Mohs reconstruction is a surgical procedure to restore the form and function to wounds resulting from Mohs surgery.

Mohs surgery (also known as Mohs micrographic surgery) is a widely used and effective technique for treating two common forms of skin cancer—basal cell carcinomas (BCCs) and squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs). This state-of-the-art technique allows the surgeon to remove cancerous cells in microscopically thin layers, performing analytical lab work at intervals throughout the process. Mohs surgery aims to spare as much healthy tissue as possible, minimize scarring, and most importantly, ensure clear margins of the target tumor. While often performed by dermatologic surgeons at an out-patient clinic, more complex and extensive reconstruction surgery is better suited to the operating room or a facial plastic surgeon.

Dr. Rahul Seth is experienced in these complex, lengthy, and complicated reconstructive procedures and will partner with your dermatologic surgeon to customize a reconstructive treatment plan that will restore natural form and function–giving you the confidence to be your best.

Candidates

You may be a good Mohs reconstruction candidate if you

  • are generally healthy
  • are a non-smoker
  • require complex or extensive mohs surgery and subsequent repair

Procedure

The approach used in Post-Mohs Reconstruction will vary based on many factors, including the size, depth, and location of the wound. Dr. Rahul Seth will meet with each patient prior to surgery to develop a customized treatment plan that will optimize treatment and minimize scarring.

Recovery

Recovery will vary depending upon the approach used.

Pain medication is sometimes prescribed for pain relief, but most patients wean themselves off in one to two days, taking Tylenol only as needed.

Some patients may benefit from treatment of the scar with microneedling and other similar procedures for the scar. Please discuss options with Dr. Seth and his team.
