Abdominal Body Shaping & Sculpting

What Is Abdominal Sculpting

For some people, a flat, toned stomach can be achieved through a nutritious diet plan and exercise, but a beautifully contoured abdomen can be impossible for some people to achieve. If you’d like an elegant and contoured abdomen, then various options exist. An extremely refined liposculpture technique may be helpful in removing small quantities of stubborn fat from your stomach and defining your abdominal muscles.

At your initial consultation, Dr. Sweeney will assess your body to determine whether you’re a good candidate for abdominal sculpting. To be a good candidate for the procedure, you should be in a healthy weight range but with stubborn areas of fat covering your abdominal muscles. You should have a low body fat percentage (preferably below 20%) and also have attempted to improve your stomach using a healthy, high-protein diet, regular exercise, and stomach muscle training. Due to hormones, genetics, or pregnancy, you may naturally be unable to attain defined, washboard abs.

The Procedure

Dr. Sweeney performs abdominal etching as an outpatient surgery in a licensed surgical facility with general anesthesia. During an approximately two-hour surgery, Dr. Sweeney will create one or more small incisions before inserting a thin, hollow tube (cannula) to suction fatty tissue. Dr. Sweeney normally uses liposculpture methods to loosen and take out fat, but he might also utilize Power-Assisted Liposuction (PAL) to achieve a more defined result. Dr. Sweeney will contour the highlights of the abdomen to improve shape. When the fat is liposuctioned and the abdomen properly contoured, Dr. Sweeney will close the incisions using stitches.

Recovery

Following an abdominal sculpting procedure, you will experience some swelling and slight bruising. You’ll be put in a compression garment to minimize swelling and bruising, which ought to diminish over the next two to three weeks. Before leaving our facility, a member of our team will provide you will appropriate after-care instructions to ensure you heal properly. You will also need to attend follow-up appointments with Dr. Sweeney so that he can evaluate your healing process.

Some mild to moderate pain is to be expected. An oral pain medication should be enough to control and manage any pain, and the pain should decrease significantly within the first several days.

It’s normal to see some fluid discharge from your liposuction incisions. This, as well as some bruising, is common. If you experience a significant increase in pain or develop a high fever, call us immediately. Drink plenty of fluids and rest, gut up and move a bit every two hours, and give yourself a sponge bath. You may not shower at this point. You will need to keep your compression garment on 24 hours a day for the first five days.

On the fifth day following your procedure, you will return to the clinic to have your garment removed and your healing evaluated. Dr. Sweeney will then give you more information on the timeline for removing your compression garment, but on average it is worn for several more weeks, continuously except when showering.

You can return to work the second week after the procedure. Light exercise, such as walking or stretching will be recommended as part of your recovery.

In the fourth week you can restart light cardio, and at six weeks most patients will be ready to return to normal activities. Activity reduces swelling and speeds recovery. The results of your liposuction will be completely apparent after a few months.
