Face& Neck Liposuction
Face & Neck Liposuction
Facial liposuction (submental lipoplasty) is a surgery that removes fat from the chin and neck area to slim and contour your lower face for those with a more full lower face and neck. Facial liposuction can be performed on its own or in conjunction with other surgical procedures, but are most commonly combined with facelift and/or neck lift.
Dr. Rahul Seth specializes in facial plastic surgery and during your consultation you will have a detailed facial assessment of skin elasticity, the presence of wrinkles, and the degree of facial fat. This assessment will open a discussion to your recommended customized and comprehensive treatment options that can give you the confidence to be your best self.
Candidates
You may be a good facial liposuction candidate if you are
- Generally healthy
- A non-smoker
- Bothered by lower face and neck fullness
- At a stable weight
Procedure
Facial Liposuction is typically performed as an outpatient procedure under IV sedation or general anesthesia. The procedure typically takes 1 hour and you are able to go home the same day with a friend or family member.
The procedure starts by making several small incisions, typically under the chin and behind the earlobe where scars are easily concealed. Using precise instruments, Dr. Seth will sculpt the contour of the jaw and neck by removing the fat through a suction process. Once the procedure is completed, the small incisions are skillfully stitched closed.
Recovery
At Golden State Plastic Surgery, we are proud to provide extraordinary care at each step of your journey. Following facial liposuction, Dr. Seth will place a bandage over your incisions as well as apply an elastic compression dressing that should be worn for the first few days after surgery.
Throughout your recovery, we recommend being gentle with your face and neck and wait to shower until two days after surgery. You may experience swelling, bruising, numbness, and a feeling of tightness or tension in the face and neck. Most of these symptoms resolve within two to three weeks, and sensation typically returns to normal within a few months.
Pain medication is prescribed for pain relief, but most patients are able to wean themselves off after a few days, taking Tylenol or Motrin only as needed.

Frequently Asked Questions
Here’s what you can expect after facial liposuction
- Swelling and bruising: You can expect swelling and bruising around the lower face and neck for 1-2 weeks after the procedure. This is normal and should subside gradually.
- Pain and discomfort: You may experience some pain and discomfort after the facelift, but this can be managed with pain medication prescribed and over-the-counter
- Stitches: The incisions from the liposuction will be closed with stitches, which will need to be removed after a few days.
- Recovery time: The recovery time for a facial liposuction can vary, but it usually takes about 2 weeks to return to normal activities. Strenuous activity and exercise should be avoided during this time.
- Results: You can expect to see the final results after a few months, when any swelling and bruising has subsided.
Neck liposuction and facial liposuction are often combined with other cosmetic procedures to enhance the overall results and achieve a more balanced and refreshed appearance. Some of the most common procedures that are performed in conjunction include:
- Facelift: A facelift is a procedure that tightens and lifts the skin on the lower face to improve the excess skin that starts “sagging” during the aging process
- Neck lift: A neck lift is a procedure that tightens and lifts the skin on the neck to improve the appearance of excess skin that accumulates in the neck.
- Structural Fat Grafting: Structural fat grafting involves the transfer of fat from one area of the body with re-injection of that fat into the areas of the face that have experienced loss of fat and volume due to the normal aging process
- Chin augmentation: Chin augmentation is a procedure that involves the use of implants or injectable fillers to enhance the shape and size of the chin. This allows the jaw line to appear more defined and elegant.
It’s important to discuss your goals and expectations with Dr. Seth to determine which procedures are best suited to achieve the results you desire. As each patient’s goals and desires are different, Dr. Seth can help you to create a surgical plan that matches your desired results.
